Sunlight quietly broke through the canopy of leaves as the sound of hooves was swallowed up in the woods. A lazy stream nearby released a sweet, syrupy smell and the traveler felt happy. His horse nibbled idly while he dismounted to stretch his legs. The midsummer afternoon was warm. Soon the trail would end in a meadow and he would ride along the wildflowers, relaxed and free. His horse was reliable, had carried him a great distance already and he knew it would take him a long way yet. A knight errant, he thought, on the uncertain road to adventure, armed and ready for any challenge.
